Searching Skills for the Health Care Provider I: Point-of-Care Tools
Busy health care providers need to find relevant information quickly to support patient care. Point-of-care tools offer an evidence-based starting point to quickly get the information you need.
This session:
- Explains defining characteristics of point-of-care tools
- Provides hands-on experience using two point-of-care tools: BMJ BestPractice and ClinicalKey
- Highlights diagnostic tool Isabel and its integration with BMJ BestPractice
- Highlights mobile app options for BMJ Best Practice, ClinicalKey and Isabel
Learning outcomes:
- Define a point-of-care tool
- Understand the evidence process
- Describe how information is synthesized
- Search for synthesized information on clinical topics
- Filter results to identify appropriate summary and/or format
- Locate instruction and support for mobile applications and resources
Recommended for: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and other direct care providers looking to incorporate evidence-based tools into practice.

To participate in an online session, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- You must have access to a computer with Skype for Business installed. If you do not have the software, you will be required to install a web app plugin that will allow you to attend as a guest
- You must have an audio output device (headphones or speakers) connected to be able to hear the instructor
- You must have an audio input device (webcam or microphone) connected whether you wish to participate verbally or not. If you do not wish to speak, you may type in the chat window
- Experience using chat
- Experience copying/pasting text and URLs
