Intellectual Property 101: What does IP mean for Health Care Providers? Online
Patents! Copyright! Trademarks! Oh my! Have you ever wondered what impact intellectual property has on health care? Do you have a great idea that you think might help patients and you want to know how to protect it? These and many more questions will be answered in this 30-minute interactive presentation led by the Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub. As Nova Scotia Health moves to launch a refreshed Intellectual Property Policy, now is the time to learn more.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the session, you will:
- Understand what intellectual property (IP) is, the various types of idea protection, and why they are important.
- Understand how the Nova Scotia Health Intellectual Property Policy applies to you and what your rights are as a potential IP creator.
- Understand how new ideas become IP and how they are commercialized to help patients.
- Know what to do to protect any intellectual property you create.
- Know who to talk to at Nova Scotia Health if you want help commercializing your idea.

- Paste the Teams meeting link into an MS Edge or Google Chrome browser address bar
- On the web page that opens, select Continue on this browser
- Enter your name and choose your audio/video settings
- Click Join now

To participate in an online session, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- You must have an audio output device connected (headphones or speakers) to be able to hear the instructor
- If you do not have an audio input device (webcam or microphone), you may type in the chat window
- You must have experience using chat
- You must have experience copying/pasting text and URLs
